reviews: Screamocore from the US on an italian label is what we got here. Quite technical and disharmonic from time to time, but all in all with a good flow and not too exaggerated. As far as I know this is their anthology with all the songs they released, and I must admit that these guys seem to have some impact on the genre, simply because they were quite early with that kind of sound (songs are already some years oldPunk and hardcore is still visible in enough ways, this sreamo record isn’t too freaked out which I really liked, and so it may be able to attract enough people who turned away from the genre just because some of the stuff that is released there is kinda unhearable (at least in my opinion). Of course this is hectic and really fast (they released on Witching Hour as far as I know, to give you a hint), but there are still structures visible in enough ways. Political lyrics from a pissed screaming (you guessed it...) singer are underlining the quite high energy impact this record has. This is luckily differing from many of the releases of the genre these days by the sheer uncountable number of bands that support this genre right now (poisonfree.com) Stesso discorso fatto per il CD dei La Falce... questo esce su Shove Records, ma ormai l'etichetta è portata avanti egregiamente dal Dott. Ing. Lup. Mann. Manuel, per cui lo recensisco senza pudore e senza timore di essere accusato di essere uno squallido autopromotore. allora, cominciamo dal nome di questi statunitensi, che è uno dei più fighi che io ricordi negli ultimi anni... "l'enciclopedia dei traditori americani"... mica male! La confezione è molto curata: grafica pulita e marziale per la copertina, disegni di folle rivoluzionarie in barricata per l'interno del booklet... ispira decisamente. La musica è violentissima, un hardcore veloce con voce urlata su tonalità ai limiti del maniacale. Non sono un esperto del genere, anzi... però sicuramente non mancano l'impatto e il tiro. A quanto ne so erano anche un gruppo di culto (too much junkie business) Gran lavoro quello fatto da Manuel di Shove Records, che ha ereditato la volontà della defunta Cycle Records di raccogliere in un solo cd - peraltro dalla grafica superlativa - tutti i vari 7", split e pezzi per le compilation sfornati dagli statunitensi Encyclopedia Of American Traitors (che nome, ragazzi!) e pagare così giusto tributo ad un gruppo il cui apporto nel giro più underground del cosidetto "screamo" negli ultimi anni è stato davvero rilevante. Quella degli Encyclopedia Of American Traitors è una miscela sonora davvero dura, istintiva, fisica: roba rivolta certamente a chi è già piuttosto addentrato in certe dinamiche! Le fondamenta sono costituite da un old school hc/punk sporco e tirato fino alle estreme conseguenze, sul quale si innestano generosamente elementi caotici come grind, brutal, death-metal, inserti elettronici, fino a sfociare in un hardcore/noise urlato e straziato. In più i nostri ci mettono, appunto, i contenuti anarco-politici a rendere il clima ancora più ostico e bellicoso: nel bel libretto avrete la possibilità di leggere tutti i testi (due - Pan y sangre e Piladoras amargas - sono scritti in spagnolo) nonché un'efficace presentazione, sebbene sui fogli stampati con caratteri a dir poco faticosi da decifrare ci lascerete con tutta probabilità un paio di diottrie! Sfuriate ultracore si alternano a parti lente ed emo-metalluse: l'ascoltatore non può non abbandonarsi a tale turbinio e non farsi trascinare nelle barricate erette dagli E.O.A.T. per combattere contro il sistema e le sue ingiustizie. Se, in caso contrario, vi estranierete dalla lotta, sarà inevitabile che il vostro nome finisca nella lista dei traditori… Un album altamente consigliato a chi ama le emozioni che la musica estrema sa dare senza cedere ai compromessi. Chi è convinto (oppure è stato convinto…) che Ataris e New Found Glory suonino emocore, bhè… provi ad ascoltare dischi come questo. (munnezza.tk) All of this material has been previously released on 7"s, split 7"s with Kwisatz Haderach and Orchid, and compilations (the names of the 7"s and compilations are not indicated, though). After a brief introduction of powerful tribal percussion, everything cuts loose into a barrage of noisy, discordant, scream infested hardcore. The vocals are actually a little bit annoying in my opinion, as the screams actually have a little bit of a "yelping" factor happening that's sort of hard to deal with. For the most part the music consists of energetic drumming and consistent basslines with uncontrolled (and often somewhat sloppy) dual guitar interaction and hectic vocal arrangements. I guess this might be called "screamo", but I'm not sure I'd go there due to the slight experimental edge and the political message. "Sinking Atlantis" integrates samples fairly well, and "Lineage" uses some lower vocals and spoken portions to add variety, while "Pan y Sangre" is a bit more diverse with some metallic riffing and staggered melody - which definitely turns out to be more powerful than some of the other tracks, especially when they slow down the tempo. "Untitled" brings back the tribal percussion with acoustic guitars, quiet spoken vocals (hard panned beneath a light distortion filter), and some bizarre synth-esque squeals in the distance. Fucking awesome. Easily the strongest piece on the entire CD, tripling the average running time of the other tracks at 6:16 in length. After a few minutes of blank space they tack on a humorous cover of Black Sabbath's "Paranoid" that jumps from helium sounding high vocals to super detuned low vocals. Goofy? Yes. But at least they separated it from the other 14 tracks. The recordings are all too thin to really do much good in my opinion, though some are mixed a bit fuller and pull it off. The bass is there and has nice definition, but there's usually not much low end to anything (other than the drums on occasion). They could get away with the thin raggedness of the guitars and vocals with a thicker core of bass and drums, though. The mastering is also a little bit off, because some songs have louder output volumes than others. It's not that big of a deal, things tend to sound better as the CD progresses, so… The layout is pretty cool. The front cover is all black with a hand holding a hammer inside of a red star smack in the center, and the rest of the artwork is all in red on black - visuals that look like woodcuts showing images of revolt. The lyrics are mostly in English with a few tracks in Spanish, but they're all brief, semi-cryptic passages that convey a political message without being stale or commonplace. "Everything we know we learn by accident, Let it sink in, A disaster waiting to happen, Let it sink in, Sinking, If it sounds right it's wrong, Truth is a swarm of insects and sweat keeps the rash burning, Lifestyle status personality all predetermined, As incoherent as a pipe dream, This synthetic race will take revenge, Stand up and be counted enemies of the state, Crawling then killing, An on and on, The horror." Despite having heard this band's name many times prior, this is my first time ever hearing their music. In all honesty I don't particularly see what all the hubbub's about, because even though there's some worthy, sincere material here, it's not that great, you know? It's probably personal taste, but to me this is just a decent CD, it's nothing that really gets me excited. (aversiononline) Ultima uscita per la distro-label Shove di Alessandria è questa raccolta degli americani Encyclopedia Of American Traitors ( che nome ragazzi!). 44 minuti, 15 canzoni prese dai loro rari 7”s, splits, compilations varie. Gli EOAT sono un gruppo ultra-politicizzato che fa dell’emo-screamish e del furore grind-powerviolence il proprio vessillo. Testi che faranno la felicità del popolo no-global: ”..the upper and lower classes! If they stop obeying, the system falls..” recita la nota iniziale ma disobbedienza e rivoluzione sono il leit-motiv di tutte le liriche: “..pacifism has become obsolete..” (Linchpin), “..business owns politic power..” (Clandestine), “..placing human potential in the hands of enemies empowers the source of our oppression..”(Accept And Settle). Musicalmente parlando è ineccepibile la loro abilità nello sferrare assalti sonici coniugando sapientemente: grind, fast-core, grezzo punk ’77 e power-violence. Voce urlatissima a volte esasperata in stridori e richiami giungleschi. Vi basterà ascoltare Contemporary Scrawl o l’iniziale Repulsive per convenire con me. Che dire poi di Linchpin con quell’intro da cartoon anni ’50 o dei brani scritti in spagnolo: Pan Y Sangre e Piladoras Amargas? Insomma qua è una goduria farsi sanguinare le orecchie. I rallentamenti sono frequenti e non manca il momento riflessivo acustico-tribale (Untitled). Gran finale con la sabbathiana Into The Void straziata e cantata da un “cyber-Chipmunk”, molto, molto gustosa. Come dicono al termine di Misdirected:“This Is America!”. Sì, l’America è anche questa…per fortuna. (kathodik.it) Il tema della politica nella musica vede molte posizioni differenti: dal mio punto di vista preferisco occuparmi prima dell'aspetto prettamente musicale e poi in secondo piano dei contenuti esplicitamente politici, quando presenti. A volte peró l'abbinamento é talmente riuscito da risultare inscindibile: l'efficacia "politica" dell'hardcore é sotto gli occhi di tutti, soprattutto quando il concetto é portato oltre i limiti dell'umana sopportazione. Encyclopedia Of American Traitors é una band dedita all'accoppiamento tra temi politici di estrema sinistra ad un hardcore screaming ultraviolento con forti influenze metallose; il gruppo é ormai disciolto e in questo CD si puó recuperare l'intera discografia, totalmente edita su 7" e compilation ormai introvabili (l'uscita piú conosciuta é il loro split con gli Orchid, con i quali hanno qualche punto in comune). Dal punto di vista musicale la voce é eccezionale (come ho letto da qualche parte in rete, "il cantato screaming piú torturato che abbia mai sentito"), le chitarre violentissime si intrecciano con un gusto sorprendente su ritmi sincopati per quattordici brani di una efferatezza esemplare, con rallentamenti di rito e accelerazioni raggelanti; i traditori americani condiscono il tutto con testi politicizzati di matrice marxista (perfino pezzi del Capitale citati nei brani), pubblicitá progresso americane con relative marcette e grafica in stile rivoluzione russa. In piú regalano una perla come Untitled, lungo strumentale semiacustico e intensissimo, nonchè la incredibile cover finale di Paranoid, genialmente urlata in un megafono giocattolo: da questo combo screaming + toy ne esce fuori... La voce di Ozzy Osbourne! Un disco compatto, efficace e di una violenza non comune, ma consigliatissimo... "Gorge the bleated and starve the weak, this is America". (sodapop.it) The drums at the very beginning of the first song "Repulsive" already show the way. This means war, and this CD contains 15 songs to destroy this corrupt world. If I got it right this is a compilation CD of previously released material as compilation songs or split 7"s (with e.g. Orchid). Musically these songs are a fierce whirlwind of chaotic screamo with some metal influences and an insane (sounding) singer.
