Like it happens a lot with little brothers, they can not thread the same paths their bigger brother has ever taken, but by taking as leaps as big as they can One Fine Days just manages to come through with enough credibility to stand on their own. "Synopsis" is not as mathy as you wish, but certainly delivers heavy and dragging sludginess with bass-driven explosions that make you think about bands such as Fall Time, Knut or Amen Ra. I must attain a certain scepticism when I hear too obvious hints to "American nervoso" or "we are the romans", but actually I couldn't care less. Originality is not the main factor why you should start a band, but dedication and expression are. If you manage to blow out the eardrums from your listeners.well, that is always a plus. I warn people that are more critical than me, but overall this is pretty powerful (mashnote.net) Bon j ai recu ce cd, je veux bien le chroniquer mais vraiment...c est mauvais. Ou plutot sans interet aucun. En lisant la liste des remerciements (oui, ca peut paraitre etrange de commencer par ça, je sais) je m attendais à un groupe excellent, pensant qu ils avaient partagé l affiche avec toutes ces références. En fait pas du tout, ils remercient apparemment tous les groupes qu ils apprécient. J ai conclu cela apres etre tombé sur le nom de...Sex pistols. Musicalement, One Fine Day jouent un hardcore assez torturé, mais tres mou, à des années lumieres de Jane Doe de qui vous savez ou Into the moat, par exemple. Pesant mais pas assez pour être lancinant, hypnotique. Bref je ne vois pas l utilité de ce groupe, d autant plus que le chant est littéralement insupportable. Penchez-vous plutot sans hésitation sur les nouvelles sorties de Shove records, dans un style bien différent que OFD(heureusement, on n a plus 15ans les gars) et dont la qualité est si loin de cette...chose (tearsfromsilence.com) Segunda referencia que manda Shove Records desde Italia. El nuevo disco de los miticos italianos One fine day que lleva por titulo Synapsis. Nunca he seguido mucho a este grupo la verdad, pero desde hace 5/6 años tengo una pegatina feisima de ellos en el cajon, una pegata de esas que te mandan cuando compras algunos discos por correo y te llenan el paquete de mierda promocional inservible. Diez temas en aproximadamente 42min en una onda hardcore metal, noisecore, piensa en Dragbody, Converge o los tambien italianos To die for, ya sabes por donde van los tiros no? partes machaconas, metal, etc y a veces meten una partes melodicas con voz de triston que sobran. Sin embargo diez temas de metalnoise en 42 min seria incluso peor que un 2xLP de cualquier grupo new wave, asi que no va ser todo noise core metal. A medida que pasan los minutos la cosa va tomando un ambiente mas espeso y oscuro. El tema "Motorized pantomine...." junto con "This is not bare....." y "Neaptide" se acercan mas a sonidos Neurosis, densos y espesos y eso mola.Tambien se atreven con instrumentales de corte industrial como en "N.O.D 60332451" que me recuerda a The Coaldfield o Breach. Como ves un disco de metal que abarca diferentes estilos, variadito y con buen sonido (uveviolence) Per i nostalgici dei Botch e gli amanti degli Isis l’uscita di quest’album è sicuramente caldeggiata. Nota dolente il fatto che rappresenti il “testamento” sia per gli OFD ( scioltisi ) che della loro label Cycle ( coproduttrice insieme all’italiana Shove e all’inglese Hosehold Name). Dopo uno sguardo alla confezione (bella la copertina e il booklet corredato di testi e varie foto live del gruppo Vort’N’Vis ) passiamo all’ascolto. L’iniziale Supernova ci dimostra subito la caratura del gruppo: furioso noise-core cerebrale che non sfigurerebbe neanche se fosse stata presente su “American Nervoso” (dei Botch appunto). Gli inserimenti elettronici sono un’altra prerogativa del gruppo e vanno a corredare quasi tutti i brani. Da segnalare l’efficace “pesantume” sludge di Opus, la psichedelia venata di elettronica di N.O.D. 60332451 ( gli Isis di “>SGNL05Magnificat, ovvero la versione ‘Mammoth’ di un possibile hit degli Alice In Chains. Verdetto: l’originalità non è il piatto forte di questo album ma comunque una buona prova di cui si consiglia l’ascolto (kathodik.it) What a nice surprise i experienced when I first listened to this CD. I was kind of expecting something different, 'cause I thought I remembered One fine Day as a band which I didn't like. But anyways, whether I liked 'em or not, or I mixed up everything again, one thing is for sure. I really like „Synapsis“. Hardcore from Italy, which is being very energetic, on the other hand very calm andspheric, then again sludgy and then very fast and uplifting with quick guitars and drums, just to start screaming and shouting and singing, whcih reminds me of Starkweather sometimes but I can't really figure out why. So sometimes hypnotised, sometimes stomped to ground and sometimes animated to throw heads through the room, I am totally happy with this CD. A varied and good record. Well, I'm still not over the being surprised but this is just great. End (hart boiled.net) I’ve never been a big fan of squealing guitars and mathematical rhythms, even less of electronic sounds and schizophrenic speed. All these musical elements and others of course are sheltered by the final release of Italian’s One Fine Day. ‘Synapsis’ is, besides the aforementioned influences, a 40 minutes trip of dark musical atmospheres, hyperactive hardcore structures and complex melodies. All surrounded by brutal metal riffs and a powerful screaming shout. According to the label ‘Synapsis’ should be an album for the fans of Hydra Head bands, so if you’re into bands like Botch, Converge, Coalesce or Reply, then you’ll love this amazing album… performed in an amazing way. Amazing… twice? Yes that’s exactly what you are reading, ‘cause even though I’m totally sure that I don’t like music embraced by squealing guitars and anything that’s to do with math-schizo-and-hyperactive rhythms, One Fine Day’s dispatched a great final album and a must-have for every fan of this hectic hardcore style. Thanks to an album like ‘Synapsis’ I’ve pass over lots of influences I really don’t like within these modern hardcore days influences that seem more and more assiduous for every day that passes. It could be the fact that One Fine Day damps their music with something that makes them sound with a significant difference… some deathmetal double bass drum-session, mosheable interludes or those tormented sludgecore moments that remind me of bands like Cult of Luna or Callisto. I don’t know… maybe I should just apply the proverb that says, “What is great, is just great… and you and I can’t do anything about it”. Have you heard about it? Well if not… Now you have! By the way, beautiful artwork… beautiful! (caraacara) Auauauau. Hektischer Hardcore, der mich direkt an Deadguy oder Kiss it Goodbye erinnert. Hydra Head Fans werden hier gänzlich bedient. ´synapsis´ ist das finale Werk einer italienischen Band, die wahrlich nichts für schwache Nerven ist. Wirklich furioser Hardcore mit fetten Gitarren und einer heftigen Stimme. Und genau so vertrackt, wie die Musik ist, scheint es auch in den Köpfen der 5 Italiener auszusehen, zumindest in dem des Sängers. Auch hier wird mit Drumcomputern rumgespielt und mit elektonischen Elementen generell gearbeitet. Das soll einem als Hörer nur Recht sein, denn allein die ersten drei Stücke ´supernova´, ´magnificat´ und ´motorized pantomime to keep me beyond the fire´ nehmen einen ganz schön mit und man darf sich hier über jede Pause freuen. Nicht, dass die Musik zu schwer verdaulich wäre, aber man braucht schon 4-13 Anläufe, um mit diesem Album klar zu kommen. Langweilig wird´s, wie bereits gesagt, nie, denn One Fine Day wissen auf ´synapsis´ mehrfach zu überraschen. Sogar lateinisch wird gesungen. Mal gucken, wer´s noch kann. ´Redi me ipsum. Nosce me ipsum.´ Und dazu Texte, die sich u.a. um die Vergebung von Sünden drehen. Eigentlich passen diese gänzlich ins Metalgenre. Zum Abschluss dieses 40-Minuten-Abschieds dieser Band wird sich an Black Flags ´damaged´ vergriffen und One Fine Day haben das mal auf ihre eigene Weise interpretiert. Durch die Auflösung dieser Band geht die Welt nicht unter, dennoch verdammt schade. Ich frage mich wirklich, wie sich das imaginäre Nachfolgealbum von One Fine Day angehört hätte. Für Die Hard Gitarrenfetischisten, die starke Nerven mitbringen (sweetjanemusic.de) The synopsis starts quite unspectacular with a fast chaotic part. Well, chaotic new school hardcore or what? Hm, if you want - strike! Only the chaos loses speed more and more. Replaced by slower moshy guitars and some singing inbetween and more and more technical arrangements playing with electronic inserts and drum machine programming thus creating some soundscapes. Still intense screaming, a Coalesce-like part here, some Disembodied there, but not too much or obvious. After the second song this record gains some more attention. But maybe just because the third song “Motorized pantomime to keep me beyond the fire” is the highlight on this ten piece CD. You're taken again on this trip at song number seven, “This is not bare rethoric (!) '...where desire and blood met'”. All the songs that run the usual hardcore track (fast parts / slow parts / screaming) can't compete with all the bands that did that before and won't present new innovative dimensions. The recording is high tech, cover art and booklet are, hm, some computer-engineering, nothing outstanding (danceofdays.org) This Italian based band already put out some releases and I was quite astonished to hear that they got a new record out, cause the last time I´ve heard of them was back in 1999 or so. Well, One Fine Day play a pretty diverse kind of energetic hardcore. On the instruments they got rather calm, dreamy and atmospheric passages that go straight to sinister and heavy parts over fast guitar riffs and hyper speed drumming. They do this while vocally clean sung parts and diabolically screamed out pieces of anger and frustration keep alternating. Their sound is really well arranged and pretty manifold. For some people this might sound stressful and indeed you need some time to get into the musical world created by this five piece. But when you´re willing to invest this time you will find a truly good and highly varied piece of music. Synapsis is much better than One Fine Day´s former output and everybody being into sophisticated and eclectic hardcore might give this release a shoot. By the way, this is also the last record ever to be released on Cycle (poisonfree.com) I One Fine Day non fanno assolutamente niente per nascondere le loro più grandi influenze musicali: dallo stile dell'artwork sino al contenuto prettamente musicale del disco in questione, ogni particolare rimanda alla gloriosa tradizione post-noise-core della Hydrahead, con una particolare devozione agli incontrastati leader del genere, i Botch. Se da una parte questo può far piacere a chi ama questa band e le innumerevoli altre che da essa traggono ispirazione, dall'altra può invece far storcere il naso per la troppa vicinanza a quel tipo di suono: in più di un episodio infatti, la sensazione di "già sentito" è dietro l'angolo. Sia chiaro, non c'è niente di terribile in questo disco dei nostrani One Fine Day, anzi: sono tecnicamente ineccepibili, discretamente vari e pure ben prodotti. Il problema è, come già detto, la troppa aderenza ad un modello che, per quanti siano gli sforzi fatti, è obiettivamente irraggiungibile (punkstation.it) Esce postumo questo terzo album dei novaresi One Fine Day con registrazioni risalenti al periodo 2000/2001. “Synapsis” ce li ricorda nel loro impeto botchiano dalle telluriche sequenze, sfregiate da dissonanti incisioni siderurgiche, ma anche nella loro espressione più evoluta. La complessità delle trame e il controllo tecnico infatti permetteva alla band di intraprendere un discorso prograssivo ed evocativo, vicino alle cosa dei Cave-in soprattutto nelle conclusive Neaptide e Magnificat. La creazione di atmosfere più subdole invece poteva trovare realizzazione mediante il supporto dell’elettronica, come nel caso di NOD60332451, ultima puntata sperimentale di una delle migliori entità scaturite dal hardcore noise-metalleggiante italiano (blow-up) Catturarono l’attenzione di molti, anche al di fuori della comunità punk-hardcore che li vide nascere, i One Fine Day. Il direttore stesso spese parole dolcissime quasi un lustro faper l’esordio dei cinque novaresi, definiti “una delle realtà più creative del moderno hc europeo” e “magnifici”. Dopo un altrettanto valido mini cd e diversi tour, però, l’avventura della band arriva al capolinea all’alba del nuovo secolo, e quello che avrebbe dovuto essere il loro secondo album, già fatto e finito, viene alla luce solo ora grazie alla perseveranza dell’alessandrina Shove. Non ce ne voglia la suddetta, ma un demo fosse capitato nella casella postale della hydra head in quell’inizio di 2001 forse a quest’ora non avremmo bisogno di spiegarvi chi erano i One Fine Day: brutalità metalliche e immaginifici voli progressivi, sferzate noise e strutture elaborate, inserti elettronici e lentezze poco tranquilizzanti, voci devastate ed un diffuso senso di angoscia che cozza così apertamente con il nome che la band si scelse. Curato nei minimi particolari, maturo ed ambizioso, synapsis sarebbe stato, anzi è, il loro capolavoro (rumore) Peccato, un vero peccato dover recensire una band defunta quando ha raggiunto una maturità ed una tecnica di questi livelli. Molti stravedono per Botch, Dillinger Escape Plan, Mastodon, Today Is The Day e compagnia sferragliante... Lo so, ho citato tutti headliner, ma qui siamo un gradino sopra e, per favore, non ditemi che faccio il partigiano: Andrea Ferraris è uno che sa suonare e non lo fa come nella media dei gruppi post-core dove, tante volte, i limiti tecnici vanno a confondersi con la scarsa inventiva. I One Fine Day spostano l'asse creativo su territori talvolta, per definizione, lontani tra loro, ma lo fanno con una sicurezza e tranquillità che non perde mai il filo conduttore dell'intero lavoro. Il sound è aggressivo, cupo, talvolta sognante, con svariati inserti electro alla KK Records (Stereo Taxi Device, alcuni Dive) che non abbassano comunque la mostruosa tensione degli oltre quaranta minuti del disco. Le trame sono intricate e la sei corde passa disinvoltamente dal tapping alle cavalcate anni ottanta fino ai grandi accordi stile Godflesh, anche all'interno dello stesso pezzo. Se dovessi muovere una critica ad ogni costo osserverei proprio che un solo cd non è sufficiente per contenere l'ipercinesi della band... ma stiamo già parlando di storia. Synapsis è una perfetta miscela del miglior rock estremo degli ultimi quindici anni e le varie Relapse e Ipecac dovrebbero far carte false per accaparrarselo. Nu metal?!!! Ma per favore... Questo è Future Metal e stavolta viene dall'Italia. Ci fosse ancora Marinetti sarebbero tra i suoi preferiti (sodapop.it) Gli One Fine Day raccolgono in questo cd 10 tracce di Hardcore New School pesantemente influenzato dalla scuola HYDRAHEAD. Al primo ascolto subito vengono alla mente gruppi come BOTCH, CAVE IN e CONVERGE, suoni distorti e disarmonici, che a volte tendono perfino al crossover (a tratti mi fanno pensare anche ai LINEA 77) mixati a tracce vocali urlate e effetttate. Le canzoni sono tutte ben amalgamate tra di loro, dando come effetto finale un album ben studiato e composto, quasi un' opera suddivisa in più capitoli. All' hardcore ruvido vengono aggiunte parti elettroniche, sintetizzatori e drum-machine, che oltre ad incupire il mood del disco aggiungono un tocco personale alla musica che altrimenti risulterebbe un po' piatta e scontata. Esempio perfetto la n. 6, "N.O.D. 60332451", traccia quasi totalmente strumentale e ricca di questi inserti elettronici, forse anche una delle più belle del disco, e la ghost song della n.10, in cui il gruppo distorce e frammenta una canzone dei Black Flag, "Damaged". L'atrwork è abbastanza curato, il libretto contiene un sacco di foto dal vivo e i testi. Nel complesso è un buon lavoro e, pur non spiccando per originalità, il disco invita ad essere ascoltato e piacerà sicuramente ai fan dell' Hc New School d'oltreoceano, quasi come se i nostri volessero dimostrare di avere le carte in regola e di essere alla pari di tanti altri gruppi tanto osannati.
